Dog Rose

The bushes of the dog rose (Rosa canina) are very widespread in Rheinhessen. It has overhanging stems and branches on which grow elongated oval and sharply serrated leaves.

The leaves are pinnate 5 to 7 times. The flower consists of 5 light pink petals and many yellowish stamens.

In the fall, the red, egg-shaped fruits, the rose hips, form.

Tea recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp elderflower
  • 250 ml water

Preparation:

Pour 250 ml of hot water over 2 tsp of elderflowers and leave for 10 min. Let pull.

Recipe for the kitchen: rosehip liqueur

Ingredients

  • 500 g rose hips
  • 750 ml grain
  • 2 organic lemons
  • 250 g sugar
  • 250 ml water

Lightly press 500 g of rose hips and pour ¾ l of grain over them. Add the grated peel of two organic lemons; after 14 days, strain and sweeten with a sugar solution of 250 g sugar and 250 ml water.
