Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc, the second most popular white wine variety in the world, surprises wine lovers with a cocktail of aromas.
Cultivation
Sauvignon Blanc requires a fertile, not too dry, medium-heavy soil and, above all, a warm location. At the right maturity, the vine is capable of producing excellent wines.
Place value
In Rhineland-Palatinate, cultivation has been officially permitted since 2001. Since that time, the number of vines grown has grown very much. In the meantime, 580 ha* (2%) of the vineyards in Rheinhessen are planted with Sauvignon Blanc, and the trend is upward. While there was not a single vine of this vine in Harxheim in 2001, there are now 1.7 ha* (2.2%).
History
The Sauvignon Blanc was first mentioned in documents in the southwest of France in 1710. It is a white wine variety with a worldwide distribution and currently the second most common white wine variety after Chardonnay. The Sauvignon Blanc was born from a natural cross between the Traminer and the Chenin Blanc. The Sauvignon Blanc had a shadowy existence in Germany for a long time and was approved for cultivation in a German wine-growing region (Baden-Württemberg) for the first time in 1999.
Pleasure
Sauvignon Blanc can be vinified both green and tropical. In tropical aging, aromas of exotic fruits such as some passion fruit and grapefruit are found on the nose. In the green aging, aromas of green bell pepper, freshly cut grass and gooseberry are dominant. Due to its facet richness in aging, Sauvignon Blanc offers itself as a versatile food companion and can well complement both light fish dishes from scampi to mussels to fried shrimp as well as hearty veal dishes and pasta with cream sauces and vegetables.
